Atlas Academy 2012
The fourth edition of the Atlas Academy will take place from 20 August to 2 September 2012 in the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.

The Atlas Academy offers a wide range of activities:

1 Atelier for the creation of new repertoire
Composers and musicians from all over the world come together to study and research the possibilities to create new intercultural music during two weeks of experimental sessions and workshops. Coming edition the Experimentalstudio Freiburg will be our special guest. >

2 Lectures/demonstrations on non-western instruments
wind instruments – shakuhachi, duduk, sheng, sho
zithers – qanun, santur, zheng, koto
bowed string instruments – erhu, kamancha, sarangi, kemençe
lutes – tar, setar, pipa

3 Seminars and documentation
Lectures by invited guest speakers will address a variety of perspectives. The activities of the Atlas Academy will be documented (audiovisual and written) with the objective to build a comprehensive digital library.

4 Informal concerts and Open Days
Performances of traditional music will take place throughout the two weeks in informal concerts at the Public Library of Amsterdam. In the Open Days on 31 August - 2 September the harvest of the composers’ and musicians’ work will be presented in concerts open to the public at the Conservatorium and Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ.
